Dr. Tomislav Stolar started his research on mechanochemistry in 2013. Since then, he was at the forefront of innovation in mechanochemistry such as early in situ monitoring studies and the development of new mechanochemical equipment for combining mechanochemistry with other types of energy sources.

Through his Bachelor, Master & PhD thesis and postdoctoral research projects, Dr. Stolar utilized mechanochemistry for a wide range of chemistry areas. This includes synthetic organic (C-C, C-O, C-N bonds), supramolecular (MOFs, COFs, HOFs, cocrystals, salts, polymorphs), organometallic (C-H bond activation), inorganic (alkalides, metathesis, minerals), and polymer chemistry (polymerization and depolymerization). The broad scope of his research is also reflected in publishing 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers to date. Among them, two invited review papers on mechanochemistry stand out: by the editorial boards of Angewandte Chemie International Edition (German Chemical Society) and Chem (Cell Press) — both leading journals in the field of Chemistry.

Dr. Stolar serves the community by regularly peer-reviewing articles in leading scientific journals such as Green Chemistry, ChemSusChem, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, and RSC Mechanochemistry.

Dr. Stolar held more than 10 invited talks at scientific conferences and university departments and was awarded with several prizes such as Lavoslav Ruzicka Prize for valuable scientific work in the field of chemistry (under the age of 35) from the Croatian Chemical Society.

Dr. Stolar won several prestigious Fellowships for his research including 2023 & 2024 Adolf Martens Fellowship from the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) and 2025 Add-on Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Science and Transfer from the Joachim Herz Foundation.

Along with Prof. Franziska Emmerling and other colleagues from BAM, Dr. Stolar was key in organizing INCOME 2025—The Mechanochemistry Conference that was held in Berlin Adlershof.

In his efforts to transfer mechanochemistry to industry, Dr. Stolar won several pitching competitions including winning 2023 Falling Walls Lab Berlin, Best Pitch Talk award voted by the audience at Berlin PostDoc Day 2023, and Green Impact Award from the Aurel Steinert Foundation at the 2025 Circular Valley Forum.

After decades of community-wide intense academic research on mechanochemistry, Dr. Stolar felt there was not enough to show for it in the industry. That is why Dr. Stolar decided to lead the commercialization of mechanochemistry along with other key players in the field such as Prof. Hajime Ito and Dr. Koji Kubota from Japan (mechanochemistry for organic synthesis).

Collective achievements place Dr. Stolar among the world leaders in the field of mechanochemistry and he is leading TSR Innovations into disrupting the chemical recycling industry. Our expertise in mechanochemistry is what sets us apart.
